Wind pump in Namuncha

Wind pump project

The wind pump is now installed in Namuncha enabling running water at the primary school.

Until now, the primary school had no running water, despite a large reservoir built beside it. There are two gravity feed tanks for clean water built, but they’re not connected to the site. The wind pump was a solution to use the plentiful local wind to pump water from the reservoir up to the tanks and onward by gravity to the school, the teachers accommodation and the new primary school garden tanks.

The cost of fully installing the 12 ft pump from Kijito was £12,000. This is a low cost, sustainable, eco-friendly, low maintenance device that will make a real difference to the children and the teachers.

This project has delivered better health, better education and a better environment.

Now we want to work with the community to implement a hand hygiene plan, so the children can learn the importance of washing their hands and teach their families.

It now feeds the school Shamba, the school clean water tank and the Girls Room.

In the drought of 2022/23 the values dried up.  Thank you for Kijito Windpower for coming out to repair the pump and to train a couple of extra maintenance men in how to maintain in normal and in times of drought.

Thank you to all who helped, donated and shared the message – a real smile from the school and the community.
